Who is committing genocide: Hamas or Israel?

by Pieter Hoogendoorn

French President Emmanuel Macron has called the October 7 pogrom “the greatest anti-Semitic massacre of our century” and called it genocide. Genocide has been defined by the UN as “the denial of the right to exist of an entire human group.” In practice, genocide amounts to mass murder – a crime under international law.

Hamas is a violent Islamist organization that grew out of the Muslim Brotherhood – a politicalreligious movement that seeks to Islamize the world. The goal and essence of Hamas is the destruction of the State of Israel and the killing of as many Jews
as possible. This is defined as such in the 1988 Hamas Covenant. This aspiration is in accordance with the view derived from the Qur’an that where the flag of Allah
has once waved, no non-Islamic entity should ever again exist. Palestine was under Islamic rule at the time of Ottoman (Turkish) rule from 1517 to 1917, hence.

After Israel completely withdrew from the Gaza Strip in 2005 and handed over control to the Palestinian Authority, Hamas expelled Fatah after winning the elections in 2007. Since then, Hamas has been running a repressive regime and has received hundreds of millions of dollars from a.o. European donors are used to build an underground terrorist infrastructure hidden under hospitals, schools and UN buildings.

Hamas was listed as a terrorist organisation by the EU in 2009. On October 7, 2023, hundreds of Hamas terrorists carried out a massacre of the Israeli population. More than 1,200 men, women and children have been brutally slaughtered indiscriminately. The
German soldiers in the extermination camps still soothed their consciences every evening with liquor, the Hamas terrorists celebrated and thanked Allah.

Israel has decided to defend itself and eliminate Hamas. In doing so, Israel wants to abide by the laws of war. Against an enemy that makes extensive use of human shields, this is extremely complex. However, Israel has no choice because the Hamas leadership announced in October that they would continue their mission once Israel has withdrawn.
There is only one possible answer to the question of who is committing genocide, and that is Hamas.
